AN APPEAL for pictures and video footage of the fire at Magdalen College School has been launched by police.

More than 60 firefighters were called to the independent school in Cowley Place on Tuesday night, to stop flames spreading from offices to the school gym and sports hall.

The offices were understood to have been the most severely damaged but Tim Hands, master of the school, said it was hoped the cost of restoring them would be kept under six figures.

Fire investigators have still not discovered the cause of the fire, with arson yet to be ruled out.

Today Thames Valley Police appealed for pictures from the scene.

Det Insp Jim Holmes said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the fire and has not yet contacted the police.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who has footage or pictures of the fire as that would help with our investigation.

“At this stage it has yet to be established whether the cause of the fire is deemed suspicious.”

Firefighters were called to the blaze after the alarm was raised at 7.15pm on Tuesday.

Crews from Rewley Road and Slade Park rushed to the school and were reported to have brought the flames under control by about 10.30pm.

Scheduled A-Level exams all took place the next day, but firefighters remained at the scene with police as investigations were made. Crews left on Thursday afternoon.

Those with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
