Bicester BC’s light welterweight, Ant Miller, was celebrating after knocking out Swindon BC’s Ronnie Smith at the ‘Rumble in the Cotswolds’ fight night at Chipping Norton Town Hall.

Right from the start of the contest, it was clear that Miller, an IT consultant, had the superior skill set.

Both men were intent on making their mark, but Miller was the one landing his punches cleanly.

A double left hook to the side of Smith’s head prompted a standing eight count from the referee.

Miller kept up the pressure, with a sweeping left hand to the chin leaving Smith in all sorts of trouble and again the referee had to step in to give Smith a standing count.

The bell sounded to save Smith from further punishment.

Smith came out behind a strong jab in round two, only for Miller to lean away and hit back with a shuddering right cross that put Smith on the canvas.

It was immediately clear Smith would not be able to continue before Miller took the knock out victory.

Head coach Daza Usher said: “It’s good to get Ant a match as he has been working hard in the gym.”

Miller added: “It feels good to be back competing again. My last match was a debatable draw, so it’s nice to get back to winning ways.”

The event raised funds for the Helen House Hospice.
