A STREET LIGHT caused a bit of a stir after it appeared to be in the middle of a community building.
Worked started on the £6.5 million community centre at the former Franklins Yard car park in Sheep Street, Bicester, in January.
Contractor Morgan Sindall is still building the centre but a street light remains untouched in the middle.
Cherwell District Council has said the lamp post will be moved and said the building was not being purposely built around it.
Spokeswoman for the council Jemma Callow said: “Given the close proximity of the site to the pavement, the street light has been left in this position for now to ensure continuity of street lighting. It will shortly be relocated to its new permanent position.”
The project is the final phase of the Bicester town centre revamp at Pioneer Square which saw the installation of Sainsbury’s superstore and Vue cinema.
Stephen Smith, who lives on the Southwold Estate, spotted the “quirky” building technique and said: “I just thought it was very odd and just a bit amusing. I had to take a picture before it had gone.”
The project is expected to take around 56 weeks to complete and it is hope it will open next spring.
