A BICESTER school is thought to be the first in the UK to sign an agreement with the Royal British Legion to formally pay tribute to The Fallen.
The Cooper School will adopt the Act of Remembrance, which will commit it to releasing 25 pupils from lessons on November 11 each year for a Remembrance Day service at St Laurence Church in Caversfield.
Last November pupils laid poppies and wooden crosses at the headstones of each soldier’s grave in the churchyard.
After pupils asked to repeat the tribute this year, the RBL Bicester and District branch approached headteacher Ben Baxter to ask for it to be formally adopted by the school.
Brian Bailey, project manager and committee member of RBL Bicester and District, said: “I feel that it is important for the younger generation to get involved in these events.
“We are very excited to sign this unique act.”
