THOUSANDS of runners have set off on the Town and Gown 10K run in Oxford this morning.
The event raises money for charity the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and is being watched by huge crowds in the city.
Earlier this morning a junior race set off outside the Keble Gate entrance to University Parks, in Parks Road.
But a wrong turn by the motorcade meant it had to start again within about 10 minutes.
Runners in the 10K race - the main event - set off at 10am in front of masses of cheering supporters.
This year's run had 3,500 people registered to take part, with organisers adding that many more signed up this morning.
Cecile Laurent, of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, said: "Everything has gone very well so far and we are all very excited.
"We have had a lot of people sign up this morning."
