RAIDERS have targeted a Barclays Bank in Woodstock.

The incident is thought to have taken place shortly before 4am today, but Thames Valley Police said it is not yet known how much cash was taken.

A cash machine was ripped from its housing at the Park Street branch and a window was smashed.

This morning police cordoned off the building and a member of the forensics team has photographed the damage.

Force spokeswoman Lucy Billen said officers had been called at 3.44am to reports that the bank had been broken into.

They were called by a security firm, she added, and it is believed the building alarm was triggered earlier.

A employee of G4S, a well-known security firm, at the scene this morning refused to confirm whether it worked for the bank.

Park Street resident Spencer Hughes said there was a loud "bang" at about 3.15am.

The 56-year-old added: "I thought it was a gas explosion, because afterwards I did not hear anything else."

Police are now said to be reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house enquiries.
