PUPILS at Cholsey Primary School have been given the chance to learn more about fine art after taking part in a national competition.

Staff and youngsters at the primary school in Church Road joined online retailer art.co.uk’s Art Sparks Learning campaign and as a result won 18 prints of works by famous artists including Miro, Hockney and Lowry.

On Wednesday staff joined pupils to take a closer look at the prints, which have been placed on the walls of the school extension that was built in 2013.

Year Two pupils chose The Battle of Trafalgar by William Clarkson Stanfield for their classroom. “I like the way the light reflects on the water,” said Oliver Baskeyfield, aged seven.

Joey Stevens, aged seven, added: “It’s very lively. It looks like it’s happening in real life.”

And Bradley Franklin, aged seven, said: “I think we’re lucky to have them because they cost a lot of money.”

The primary school is also one of three schools that could also win £750 worth of art supplies.

Headteacher Heather Haigh said: “One of our teachers Sue Robson heard about the chance to get these prints and we are delighted to have them.

“There are quite a lot of famous pictures and we chose them from different historic periods.”
