RAPIST nurse Andrew Hutchinson has been jailed for 18 years at Oxford Crown Court.

The 29-year-old former accident and emergency nurse admitted 23 sexual offences between 2011 and 2013 – including two of rape at the John Radcliffe Hospital – last month.

He also subjected a 21-year-old and a 24-year-old to sexual assaults in the medical tent at the Wilderness Festival in 2013, where he was volunteering.

In total he admitted 27 offences and was sentenced by Judge Ian Pringle today who described it as a "grotesque breach of trust".  He sentenced him to 18 years with an extra seven years on licence.

Judge Pringle said: "It's impossible to comprehend or conceive of a greater breach of trust in our society."

Hutchinson’s crimes were discovered after he was arrested in 2013 for secretly filming women getting changed at the White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon.

Officers searched his home and found photos and videos of him abusing women dating back to 2011 that he had taken himself.

It follows the jailing of 37-year-old nurse Oliver Balicao in 2010 for raping a 17-year-old girl at the same hospital and sexually assaulting another patient in her bed.

Leading Operation Bream, Senior Investigating Officer, Det Ch Insp Mark Johns of Thames Valley Police CID said: "I am pleased that Hutchinson has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for this string of depraved offences across Oxfordshire. I have no doubt that Hutchinson would have continued to offend had he not been arrested so I am delighted that this prolific offender will now be behind bars for a significant period of his life.

"This has been a particularly complicated, unusual and sensitive case as the victims of his sex offences were not aware that offences took place because they were not conscious. Thames Valley Police sent specially trained officers to personally speak to all the victims.

"I would like to thank the victims for the great courage and dignity they have shown during our investigation. I cannot imagine the distress they have been through since we had to inform them they were a victim in this complex investigation. I hope the victims feel some sense of justice now Hutchinson has been convicted and sentenced.

"I would again like to reassure members of the public in Oxfordshire that all victims that can be identified from images we obtained from Hutchinson have been contacted by Thames Valley Police. However, should anyone wish to speak to our officers about their concerns, please do contact 101 quoting Operation Bream.

"Finally, I would like to thank all the officers and staff at Thames Valley Police who have worked on this investigation, as well as all the agencies involved in this case, including the Crown Prosecution Service and NHS."
