ANTIQUE collectors made their way to Hook Norton for a charity valuation from a company based in Banbury.

JS Fine Art held the event at the Hook Norton Sports and Social Club on Wednesday.

In exchange for telling people the value of their art and antiques, it took donations for Adderbury-based Katharine House Hospice.

Robin Pockett, from Hook Norton, near Chipping Norton, took along a 19th century colonial carrying chair.

He said: “I dabble in antiques as a hobby and I wanted to see how much it was worth. I bought it about a month ago.”

Mr Pockett would not reveal how much the chair had been valued at.

The company regularly holds valuation services in Hook Norton as well as auctions at its Oxford Road auction house.

Wednesday’s valuation came ahead of its next fine art and antique auction on May 16.

Katharine House Hospice offers special palliative care to patients across Oxfordshire and their families. It needs to raise £2.3m through fundraising and donations every year.

Costs include paying for palliative care nurse for six weeks – £5,000 – and bereavement services costing £110 a day.
