A BED manufacturing company has donated 32 beds to a support service for families with children being treated at an Oxford hospital.

Hypnos made the donation to Ronald McDonald House, based on the top floor of the Oxford Children’s Hospital at the John Radcliffe site in Headington.

Last year the charity – a partner of fast food chain McDonalds – said 635 families stayed free of charge at the house, which has 18 ensuite bedrooms.

It also provides communal kitchens, lounges and playrooms.

Michelle Francis, who manages the Oxford Ronald McDonald House, said: “We are very grateful to Hypnos for kindly donating such high-quality beds for our families. Sleeping as well as possible helps the families cope better as their children are being treated.”

Parents Ian and Bernadette Doncaster, pictured, from Leamington, Warwickshire, stayed in March when their daughter Lucy was undergoing treatment for cystic fibrosis.

Mr Doncaster said: “Having a place to rest that allowed us to be close to our child gave us great peace of mind.”

Hypnos has provided beds for each of the 18 rooms at the house.
