A WORKMAN seen hanging out the door of a van travelling at 85mph down the M40 in Oxfordshire is being sought by the police.

The man was seen by other drivers leaning out the sliding door of a black Vauxhall Vivaro van in the outside lane of the motorway near Bicester on Friday afternoon.

James Hobkirk photographed him hanging his upper body – and even a leg – out of the vehicle on the M40.

Mr Hobkirk, travelling from Manchester to Kent, said: “There was this guy in the outside lane hanging out of the van, saluting people as he went past.

“We were travelling about 65mph in the middle lane and he came flying up behind us.

“He must have been doing about 80, 85(mph).”

The 37-year-old said: “He was just hanging out the side door for about five minutes.”

Thames Valley Police are investigating the incident. A spokesman said: “Thames Valley Police received a report of a man hanging out of a side door of a vehicle while travelling on the M40 motorway on Friday at 1.15pm.”
