PATIENTS in Oxfordshire have been reminded there are a range of health services available if they need help and advice when their GP practice is closed for Easter.

Most surgeries in the county will close for four days from Good Friday (April 3) until Easter Monday, April 6. But some services will remain open, such as the minor injuries unit at Witney Community Hospital and high street pharmacies in Oxford.

Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) has advised people to download the free Choose Well mobile phone app to make it easier to find health services which are open in their area.

The app provides addresses and details about opening hours.

Oxford City locality clinical director at OCCG Dr David Chapman said: Our priority is to make people aware of the range of health services that are available to help support and treat them especially over holiday periods like Easter.

Our top stories

“If people feel unwell and need advice but their GP practice is closed they can always visit a high street pharmacist or call NHS 111 for support."

“The free Choose Well phone app is ideal to help them find local services quickly.”

At minor injury units such as the one in Witney people can drop in for advice on less serious injuries such as cuts, scalds and fractures.

High street pharmacies also offer confidential advice on minor ailments and are able to recommend what sort of medicine people should buy, if any.
