November 22.

I can only conclude that Jack McLean continues to be hired by The

Herald not for his accuracy but for the readable space given over to his

critics.

In his whistle-stop trip to Tobermory (Weekender, November 19), which

appears to have been confined to the precincts of the local hostelries,

he denigrates the character of the Mull people.

I have known, stayed with, and re-visited the Muileachs since 1906,

written about them, and received a host of letters from home and abroad

praising their hospitality and kindness.

I can only hope that readers will realise he was talking through his

tilted top-gear.
