ALAN Shearer last night became only the second man to be named Players' Player of Year twice in his career.

The Newcastle and England striker picked up the award at the PFA dinner in London and joins Mark Hughes in the elite club of players who have won the award twice.

Manchester United's David Beckham was named the PFA Young Player of the Year, and also came second behind Shearer in the senior award.

Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who has had a recent revival to his England career, came third in the awards, which are voted on by all professional footballers.

q A Mark Burchall hat trick took Celtic into the final of the Glasgow Cup where they will meet Partick Thistle in two weeks' time.

Burchall was in top scoring form as Celtic beat Queen's Park 3-0 while Rangers faltered yet again, beaten 3-2 by Clyde.

That left Partick top of the qualifying section on nine points with Celtic second on six and with one game to play.

Rangers, who have completed their matches , are on four points.

The final will be played at Firhill on Sunday, April 27.
