SCHOOLS across Oxfordshire raised money for Comic Relief by doing something funny to raise money.

Pupils from all over the county sold cakes, painted faces and wore fancy dress as part of Red Nose Day.

John Mason School, in Oxford, allowed pupils to wear fancy dress for the occasion and aimed to raise hundreds of pounds.

Teacher Kevin Brinkley, who was sponsored to be a zombie, said: “The fancy dress ranged from Teletubbie to zombie.”

Fellow teacher Jean Dixon added: “The fundraising we have done from Year 9 cake sales for Comic Relief has so far resulted in more than £200 and lots of calories.”

Since its launch in 1988, Red Nose Day has become a British institution and every two years, people across the land get together to raise cash for poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa.

Ladygrove Park Primary School in Didcot filled the charity coffers by selling cakes and organising an Into The Zone event.

Youngsters at the school in Avon Way wore red, sported their Red Noses and took part in the Into the Zone challenge by rolling a ball as close to their Red Noses as they could for prizes.

They were hoping to raise more than £600.
