MATHS was made more fun for John Henry Newman pupils, who found the key to getting to grips with the subject was penguins.
Three weeks ago, head of maths at the Littlemore school Rowena Martin discovered a book called 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental and Joelle Jolivet. A new penguin arrives at a family’s door every day for a year and they need to use maths to work out how to care for them.
Staff planned a series of penguin-themed activities to coincide with World Maths Day last Wednesday, including a school-wide penguin hunt over two weeks.
Mrs Martin said: “Children wrote on notes things like ‘We did not realise maths could be so much fun’.”
