HE might have been The College Dropout, but Kayne West caused a storm with university students yesterday.

The rapper made an appearance in the city at a talk at the Museum of National History. Students flocked to see the superstar after news broke on Sunday night that The Oxford Guild society managed to book the 37-year-old.

Fans in The Oxford Guild said that they were just told “We’ve got Kanye”.

Among his quotes were, “People say I’ve got a bad reputation. I think I’ve got the best reputation in the building”, “If I, Kanye West, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone” and “Obama calls the home phone, by the way.”

Before the speech, student Lewis Hedges said: “Nobody knew about him coming until last night. It came up on social media yesterday and there were three ballots at noon, 2am then 9am. I got in the last ballot and paid £3.83 for my ticket.

Mr West left the building in a blackedout Mercedes while fans went crazy and mobbed the vehicle.

Reece Davison, a fan from Wood Farm, said: “I’m a massive fan of Kanye. I’m not a student so I wasn’t able to get a ticket but apparently there were over 5,000 people who balloted for 350 tickets.”

Student Albert Wood added: “I’m just here for the banter. I managed to get a ticket and we are here because we are curious what he is doing here.”
