A GROUP of Oxford residents have finally finished cleaning up a historic cemetery after six years of hard graft.
The Friends of St Sepulchre’s group have been tackling overgrown vegetation to try to make St Sepulchre’s cemetery in Walton Street a more welcoming place. And on Wednesday, the group marked the end of the project with a ceremony at the conclusion of the final day’s work at the site.
Garden group co-ordinator Genefer Clark said: “We have been doing this for six years so it has been a long time coming. Wednesday was also a good opportunity to get people along and let them know that the snowdrops are out. Now the cemetery manager is planning that next step.”
The cemetery opened in 1848 as a burial ground for people in the north part of central Oxford.
Work to plant seeds, bulbs and plants will continue and the next session with the Friends of St Sepulchre’s will be held at 10am on Tuesday, March 10.
