Guy Luzon has asked the Charlton fans to stick with the team after a spirited second half fightback in this evening’s 3-2 Valley defeat by Norwich.

The Addicks looked distinctly second best in the opening period and it took Norwich just 14 minutes to break the deadlock.

A mistake by Chris Solly was capitalised on by Bradley Johnson who played in Lewis Grabban, the former Millwall player feeding the ball to Johnny Howson who finished with a low drive which went beyond the reach of Marko Dmitrovic.

And a chorus of boos rained down from the home fans two minutes before the interval when Grabban chipped the Addicks keeper to double the Canaries’ advantage.

‘You’re getting sacked in the morning,’ and ‘You don’t know what you are doing were just two of the more printable chants aimed at head coach Luzon immediately after that goal flew in.

The head coach said: “I think in the first half we want it too much. We run too much but with passion but without organisation. After 2-0 - a single mistake - and the atmosphere was not easy.

“We come back to the dressing room and I told them that I know they give 100 percent.

“We need to come back to the second half with this passion but with organisation and we need to be smart and to work with the brain.”

It was game on just after the hour when substitute Tony Watt grabbed his first goal for the club with a low finish past John Ruddy after meeting Igor Vetokele’s flick on.

The hosts were back on terms in the 68th minute.

Callum Harriott’s shot was saved by Ruddy but came out to Watt, who set up Vetokele for his first goal since Charlton’s last victory, a 1-0 win at reading in early November.

But all the good work was undone seven minutes from time as Wes Hoolahan delivered for fellow substitute Cameron Jerome to head home the winning goal.

Luzon said: “We come back and score two goals.

“Unfortunately we concede the third one in the last five minutes.

“It is very, very disappointing because we have deserved to come to the end with points, one or three, because I think the attitude especially in the second half was a fantastic attitude.

“In our situation with more than three months without a result the players play well.

“We are very disappointed, also the fans are very disappointed and all the people around the club are disappointed because we are a long time without a result.

“We need for the next game to continue the attitude from the second half and also we need the fans to be with us because it is the only way to go to success.”

Luzon was asked what his reaction had been to those chants of anger from the home fans as the two sides went in at the break.

“When I came in at half-time I said to the players we need to keep positive, also with a better momentum and also with this atmosphere we need to be strong.

“We need to show character and we need to be together.

“But I believed then that if they continue like this and don’t give up, raise their heads it will be OK.

“That’s what I said to them.”

The result leaves the Addicks just three points above the trap door following Millwall’s 1-0 win at Birmingham and next up at The Valley is Saturday’s London derby with Brentford.

Luzon said: “Every game is tough in this league.

“The only way and what we need to do is to bring the character that we showed in the second half to the next game.

“It is the only way to behave now.

“If we be negative and we let our heads down, it will not take us far anyway.

“We need to be strong and show the character that we did in the second half, to be together and to give everything.”

Is life in England turning out to be tougher than expected for the under-fire Israeli?

“I knew when I took the job they were not in good momentum and a difficult situation, but it is part of the job.

“We need also to pass the obstacle like this and I’m sure that we will do it.”
