THE £20m Castle Mill boatyard scheme in Jericho has been approved.

Seven councillors at tonight's west area planning committee voted in favour of the scheme.

Only one committee member, Mike Gotch, did not support it.

Some 45 conditions have been applied to the scheme and a Section 106, how the community can benefit from developer contributions, will come back to committee at a later date.

The plans included a public square between St Barnabas Church and the Oxford Canal, bordered by a community centre, boatyard, nursery, restaurant and 22 homes.

A decision was due at last month’s meeting of the committee, but it was pulled from the agenda the day before so that councillors could carry out a site visit.
