DISABLED Access Day will be celebrated by Oxford’s Story Museum with a series of events.

On Saturday, January 17, from 10am there will be tours for those with a visual impairment.

There will also be gaming demonstrations with West Oxfordshire charity SpecialEffect, which provides games for the disabled.

Kim Pickin, joint director of the Pembroke Street museum, said: “We are dedicated to making stories accessible to everyone.

Our top stories

“We’re really looking forward to being part of Disabled Access Day, and to hearing suggestions from all our visitors on how we can make the building more accessible.

“The museum is fundraising for the ongoing refurbishment of its site, including the installation of a new lift.”

This would give visitors wheelchair access to the second floor. At the moment there is only lift access to the first floor.

The museum completed its first building phase in April and is aiming to be a top children’s literature attraction.

The majority of events on the day are free but there is a suggested donation of £1 to cover the cost of materials for craft sessions between 11am and 4pm.
