A 51-YEAR-OLD robber has been jailed for stabbing his partially disabled victim with a pair of scissors.

John Cheshire, formerly from Thame but now of Bicester Way, Aylesbury, pleaded guilty to robbing Timothy Kitchen.

Gavin Pottinger, prosecuting, told Oxford Crown Court the father-of-four knew his victim and at about 10pm on June 15 this year he went to Mr Kitchen’s home in Pearce Way, in Thame.

The barrister said Cheshire was let in by the defendant – who is partially disabled after a motorbike accident – and started making demands for money.

Mr Pottinger told Judge Patrick Eccles that when Mr Kitchen refused to hand over his bank card the robber picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the left shoulder.

The prosecutor said Cheshire then pushed and shoved his victim into the corner of the room, knocking items off shelves and injuring the “vulnerable” man’s back.

Mr Pottinger said the defendant threatened to stab Mr Kitchen in the throat, while two accomplices stole two TVs and a laptop, which were later recovered.

He added that Cheshire had previous convictions for burglary, causing actual bodily harm and possessing drugs.

Tom Stevens, defending, said his client had struggled with addictions to alcohol, cannabis and cocaine.

He said: “Mr Cheshire comes before the court a man filled with remorse.

“It is of deep regret to him that a situation unfolded in such a way that Mr Kitchen found himself injured, and that is something he is totally sorry about.”

Judge Eccles said it was an “absolutely shocking offence” and sentenced Cheshire to four years in prison.

He will also have to pay a £120 victims’ surcharge when he is released.
