THE festive season started with a bang in Abingdon last weekend with a spectacular firework display after the Christmas lights were switched on.

Dave Fleming captured our stunning main image this week while standing among the crowds in Market Place, looking towards St Nicolas Church.

  • The world’s first man to run a mile in under four minutes, Sir Roger Bannister, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Oxfordshire Sports Awards on November 28.

Sir Roger was unable to attend the evening, so Jon Lewis photographed him at home in Oxford, below, with his award.

Oxford Mail:

Using available natural light, Jon captured the delight on his face as he clasped his trophy. A great shot of a truly great man.

  • This brilliant image, below, made me laugh out loud!

Oxford Mail:

Emma Jeffrey got a surprise on the morning of her hen do last Saturday, when she was told that along with her 40 hens she would be dressing as a minion from the film Despicable Me.

Dave Fleming met the ladies at Didcot Parkway before they caught a train to London and Emma proved to be far from ‘yellow’ as she posed with her friends!

  • Julian Rus attended the Witney Advent Fair last weekend and photographed Ruben Thomas meeting Father Christmas.

I love the concentration on the youngster’s face, in the picture below, as he delves deep for a present.

Oxford Mail:

Lovely simple shot that says so much.

  • East Oxford’s mental health charity Restore hosted its Beehive Winter Fair last weekend.

Julian Rus captured this delightful image, below, of the charity’s chief executive, Martin Realey, with his daughter, Florence.

Oxford Mail:

The pair, wearing their festive hats and jumpers, are having a giggle while admiring the other’s outfit. Another great candid shot that immediately brought a smile to my face.

The seventh Big Sing event took place at Oxford Town Hall this week.

Richard Cave went along to cover the event and came back with an array of great images.

This one, below, stood out to me because of the sheer look of joy on the young girl’s face.

Oxford Mail:

The Ladygrove Park Primary pupil looks absolutely delighted to be involved and to be in charge of ringing the bell.

Richard used a long lens and available light to capture this and it goes to show that the most candid moments can make the best pictures.
