FOUR men have been fined for not paying their council tax.

Mohammed Rahman, of Cotswold Road, Cumnor Hill; Christopher Meacey, of Stonehill Walk, Abingdon; Paul Mertha, of Folly View Road, Faringdon; and Paul Lloyd, of Wickelsham Farm Cottages, Faringdon, were each ordered to pay a total of £230.

All four men had failed to pay council tax, and Vale of White Horse District Council will now pursue them for the arrears they owe.

The four admitted failing to provide the council with information.

Oxford magistrates fined them each £110 with £100 costs and a £20 victims’ surcharge.

Vale leader Matthew Barber said: “These fines show that we will not hesitate to prosecute people who ignore and fail to cooperate when we are collecting and recovering council tax.

“Council tax pays for important services for our society and it’s very important that everyone pays their contribution towards it.

“These people now have a criminal record for failing to co-operate and contribute and now face further action which may result in their committal to prison.”
