AN ENCHANTING summer comedy will leave audiences spellbound as it returns to the stage this week.

The Charlbury Amateur Dramatic Society will perform their version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream from tomorrow.

A cast of 14, aged 17 to 70, will take to the stage at Charlbury’s Memorial Hall, in Brown’s Lane, for three evening performances of the fairy-themed classic. Director Glena Chadwick, 74, said: “It’s one of my favourite Shakespeare’s.

“The fact that it’s going to be done in the middle of winter is a bit strange but I think it’s fun to have it in the middle of winter.

“I think the good thing about this is that it has something for everybody. I just think it’s a feel-good play.”

The cast have been preparing for their production since September with weekly rehearsals.

Marion Greenfield said she had enjoyed helping with the actors’ make-up. The 70-year-old added: “It’s Shakespeare but it’s very accessible Shakespeare.”

Performances will begin at 7.30pm and tickets cost between £7 and £9.
