A SCHOOL in Oxford has been awarded arts status by the Arts Council for a “true commitment to quality arts”.

Wheatley Park School in Holton has gained the Artsmark Gold status for the fourth consecutive time, the only school in Oxfordshire to do so.

A-Level student Rebekah Wittingham, 17, said: ”I enjoy the fine arts course here because it has less boundaries and more scope for the imagination.”

The school, where the band Supergrass were pupils, has tried to generate art and creativity through new technologies.
