STUDENTS from Headington School will be displaying their musical talents at a concert on Saturday.

The school’s string orchestra will perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at St Andrew’s Church, Headington, with a different soloist for each season.

Sixteen-year-old Jenny To, who will be the ‘autumn’ soloist, said: “It’s an awesome opportunity to perform for local people with our favourite music.”

John Hutchings, director of music at the independent girls’ school, has been leading rehearsals for the orchestra.

He said: “St Andrew’s is a fantastic church with great acoustics. The audience are the warmest you could ever meet.

“We’ve been told that we have some of the best violinists in Oxford, and the girls are incredibly talented.”

Mr Hutchings explained there was a historical connection between Vivaldi and the all-female orchestra.

He said: “Vivaldi was master of violin at the girl’s orphanage Le Pieta in Venice. So it seems fitting that our girls’ school will be performing the piece.”

The concert will start at 7.30pm, and refreshments will be available after the concert. Tickets are £10 and can be bought on the door.

The event at St Andrew’s comes ahead of a celebration marking the centenary of Headington School, which will be held at the Sheldonian on December 4.
