RESIDENTS living on a new estate in Didcot could be fined £100 for parking outside their own homes.

The ban on parking in three streets at Great Western Park was introduced yesterday.

But homeowners said they were not properly consulted over the move and are urging developer Taylor Wimpey to reconsider.

Trish Chaisty, 44, who lives in Blackthorn Road, said: “I don’t think residents have been properly consulted – this has been badly thought through and I would like it to be withdrawn.”

More than 3,300 homes are being built on the estate between the A4130 and the Wantage Road, and more than 600 homes are already occupied.

The parking restriction applies to Blackthorn Road, Greenfinch Road and Sir Frank Williams Avenue.

John Boden, chairman of Great Western Park Residents’ Association, said: “This all started when people started parking dangerously on the junction of Sir Frank Williams Avenue and Red Kite Way.”

Taylor Wimpey spokeswoman Abby Davies said: “We initially wrote to residents advising them that parking is not permitted in these roads, and was causing traffic flow problems.

“Unfortunately this approach was not successful.

“We have discussed the matter with the local residents’ association.”

Ms Davies said that the parking scheme was being run by the firm PCM UK and drivers who were found parking in the restricted area would receive a fine of £100, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.

She added that signs have been installed in the roads to advise drivers of the restrictions.
