A CYCLIST was seriously injured in Headington in a collision with a car which did not stop at the scene, police said today.

The 20-year-old woman was in a collision with a dark-coloured Volkswagen Passat estate car at 8.15pm on Tuesday in Morrell Avenue, Thames Valley Police said.

The car was turning out of Stone Street and did not stop at the scene and drove towards Old Road, the force said.

The woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries and has been discharged. No more details were available.

Investigating officer PC Matthew Hunt said parts of the car were left at the scene.

He said: “I am appealing for the driver of the Volkswagen Passat or anyone who knows who the driver is to contact police. The driver would have been fully aware of the collision.

“The car will have damage to the front around the fog light area and will have a broken number plate.

“The vehicle was seen on CCTV prior to the collision and parts of the car were left at the scene.

“I would like the driver to make contact with police as a matter of urgency as it is simply a matter of time before we are knocking on the owner’s door.”
