A 62-YEAR-OLD on trial at Oxford Crown Court has denied being part of a group of “sex abusers” from Bicester who raped a young boy.

Terence Sturgeon-Clegg, now of Irvine, in Ayrshire, Scotland, is charged with the historic sexual and physical abuse of children in the town during the 1970s.

He denies 12 charges of indecent assault, two of indecency with a child, three of cruelty to a person under 16 years of age and another serious sexual offence.

Yesterday he was cross-examined by Oliver Saxby, prosecuting, who asked him why he thought the allegations had been made if they weren’t true.

Referring to a man who said he was seriously sexually assaulted by Sturgeon-Clegg together with others when he was a young boy, the barrister asked: “Why is he saying this about you?”

The defendant replied: “I have no idea.”

Later, Mr Saxby read a detailed account of what the complainant said happened to him, involving “two or three people in the room”.

He told Sturgeon-Clegg: “That’s his memory, of you doing it.”

The witness replied: “No.”

Mr Saxby said: “Of other people doing it.”

Sturgeon-Clegg said: “No.”

The barrister said: “Of this group of friends and acquaintances, of sex abusers in Bicester.” The defendant said: “No, no, no. Never happened.”

The trial continues.
