OXFORD: A student scooped £3,000 from an online retailer to help him through the new academic year.

Thomas David, 22, is one of six winners of the Amazon Student prize fund.

The University of Oxford PhD student, who is researching Materials Engineering, received the prize to help purchase academic books and digital gear.

Mr David, who lives in North Oxford, said: “Now I’ve just started a PhD, this money will be very useful for all of the books I’ll need over the next three years.”

The prize was part of the Amazon Student scheme, which offers higher education students six months of unlimited free one-day delivery on products.
