ART and sport collided at Wheatley Rugby Football Club as young rugby players got to grips with designing a new kit for their teams.

Pupils from Cheney School, Oxford Academy and Oxford Spires Academy took part in the workshop on Tuesday, which was part of the Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) All Schools programme.

It was supported by England kit manufacturer Canterbury, who will make the final designs into a kit to be given to the teams for free.

Oxford Spires PE teacher Sean Masterson said: “It was really good; it was wonderful for our students.

Our top stories

“Their kit design merges the culture of Oxford Spires and the house system. It has the purple of Oxford Spires on the front merging with a panel with house colours.

“With the All School programme it is all about developing rugby in schools which do not normally play it.

“We have had a rugby coach in and the boys are really enjoying it.”
