Head coach Bob Peeters says there had already been some loan interest in Simon Church before the Charlton striker suffered a dislocated shoulder playing for Wales.

The 25-year-old had been told by The Valley chief before the international break he could leave the club on a temporary basis after finding first team opportunities limited in SE7.

But any potential move is now on ice after Church was struck down by injury representing his country at the very start of Monday’s meeting with Cyprus.

Peeters said: “I didn’t see it to be honest. I was about to watch the Wales game, I was three minutes too late and he was already off the pitch.

“I heard from Erol Umut he had dislocated his shoulder but it will take a while.

“If you dislocate your shoulder it will be a few weeks, but we will see when he gets back (from Wales) how he is.

“There were some teams interested.

“I think Churchy can do the job at certain teams, but again I think we spoke very honestly with each other.”

The Belgian added: “I’m gambling on the youth at this moment, but he is still a squad player and if he was not injured he was available to be in the squad.

“I talked to him because I respect him as a human, and he is a Wales international so I give him that respect, but I told him maybe it is better to go somewhere else to get minutes.

“At this moment I don’t know how it went or if his agents have already been contacted.

“We had some clubs interested but we will see how it goes.”
