BLACKBIRD Leys pupils strummed up a storm when they made ukuleles from empty Utterly Butterly tubs.

Year Five children from the Blackbird Leys Academy Trust – made up of Pegasus Primary School, Windale Primary School and Orchard Meadow Primary School – played their handmade instruments at a concert at Pegagus Primary yesterday.

Organiser and music teacher Clare Chapman said: “It was brilliant, they loved it.

“They got to make their own instrument and play as a huge group. They played about eight different songs, including from The Lion King and The Muppets.”

Nine-year-old Macey Clair, from Pegasus, said: “I enjoyed making my ukulele and playing in the concert with all my friends.”
