A MAN who installed iPods at Oxford cash machines to record people entering their PINs was convicted of fraud today, Thames Valley Police said.
Police said Abunei Catalin, 23, from Dagenham, was caught on CCTV acting suspiciously in New Inn Hall Street on Thursday night at about 7.50pm.
Officers arrived and said on arresting him they discovered an iPod Nano had been attached to cash machines.
They also found Catalin had fitted a card trapping device and the iPod Nano to the Queen Street Co-op cash machine.
He was charged on Thursday with possession of article for use in fraud and making a false representation in order to make a gain for himself.
Police said he appeared in Oxford Magistrates’ Court today, pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentencing at Oxford Crown Court on October 21.
Case investigator Gemma Turner said: “This was a very fast moving case with officers linking in with CCTV to attend and arrest Catalin.
“I am pleased with the conviction and would like to remind everyone to make sure they check their surroundings and cash machines to ensure they have not been tampered with before they use them.”
