NETWORK Rail has apologised after First Great Western commuters’ train woes continued for a third day this week.

Signalling problems first affected services between Oxford and London Paddington on Monday, after damage caused during overnight work led to services being cancelled or severely delayed.

On Thursday there were signalling problems between Twyford and Maidenhead which led to trains being run at reduced speed on all services.

The problem was fixed early this morning but commuter’s journeys to work were still delayed until a normal service resumed at 10.30am.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are sorry for the problems that have affected train services on the Great Western Main Line this week. Performance has been well below the standards passengers deserve and respect.

“We are acutely aware of the frustration and inconvenience felt by passengers when things go wrong. We are working constantly across the rail network to improve the reliability of train services.”

He added: “This week we have not been able to provide the reliability passengers expect for which we apologise. We are wholly focused on delivering a new, modern, reliable rail network for London and the West.”
