A SERIAL burglar who was told he was responsible for “something of a crime wave’’ has been jailed at Oxford Crown Court.

Florinel Miron, of no fixed address, yesterday admitted carrying out seven break-ins in Oxford and Kennington during August this year.

Prosecutor Cathy Olliver said the 28-year-old took a range of items including jewellery, laptops, a screw driver, food and a harmonica.

The barrister said the burglaries were in the Fane Road, Arlington Drive and Kennington Road areas of Oxford, plus others in Kennington.

Miss Olliver told Judge Patrick Eccles the Romanian national had no previous criminal convictions, either in the UK or his home country.

Sarah Holland, defending, said her client had found himself with no money after being unable to find work or qualify for benefits.

Judge Eccles sentenced Miron to 28 months in prison and told him to pay a £120 victims surcharge.

He said: “It appears you were responsible for something of a crime wave around properties in Kennington and Oxford.”
