EURYTHMICS star Annie Lennox has given her backing to an Oxford artist’s fundraiser to support an Oxfam project in Niger.

Local artist Rachel Ducker, whose wire sculptures go for in excess of £5,000, is organising a one-off art show to raise cash for the education scheme, aimed at children from poor communities in the African country.

The Oxford Circle – part of international organisation The Circle, founded by Ms Lennox – is joint-hosting the exhibition on Thursday, displaying work from a number of acclaimed Oxfordshire artists.

Ms Lennox said: “The Oxford Circle’s art event is a great example of the Circle ethos and spirit in action, using their skills and resources to create inspirational and innovative ways to transform the lives of women in developing countries.”

The event, taking place at Varsity Club in High Street, Oxford, between 6pm and 9pm, will feature works available to purchase from local artists, including exhibition curator and Circle member Ms Ducker.
