A FLYTIPPER has been ordered to pay £1,255 after he admitted dumping waste in Kidlington.

Michael McWilliams admitted flytipping two fridges, a carpet, cardboard, white goods and parts of kitchen cabinets on November 1 last year.

He was found and fined following an investigation by officers working for Cherwell District Council.

And on September 1 this year McWilliams, of Sandscroft Avenue, Broadway, Worcestershire, pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates’ Court to an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The district council said he had been paid to remove the waste by an Oxford resident, but it was found flytipped in Queens Avenue, Kidlington. The local authority said it spoke to the resident and confirmed they had hired McWilliams to dispose of it.

Mr Tony Ilott, the district council’s lead member for Clean and Green, said: “I want to stress how important it is for anyone who hires a waste removal operative to check their credentials.

“Only that way can they be sure that their rubbish won’t be flytipped.

“Cherwell has a good record when it comes to tracking down flytippers in our district and we will continue to pursue and prosecute anyone who flouts the rules until this blight is stamped out.”

Anyone who is not sure about a waste removal service can contact the Environment Agency to check what licence would be required at enquires@environment-agency.gov.uk.

McWilliams was fined £550 and told to pay £650 costs and a £55 victims’ surcharge.
