The UK’s first ‘space academy’ opened in Banbury yesterday, welcoming its first intake of 75 students and specialising in maths and science.

Based in Ruskin Road and run by the Aspirations Academy Trust, it has room for 300 students. The curriculum will teach GCSE and A-Level qualifications and take students aged between 14 and 18.

Headteacher Mike Grocott said he hoped to inspire children to work in the space industry.
