LET'S hope the residents of Scotland have the good sense to stay within the British family. A vote to separate will damage jobs, the currency and pensions. A tiny state within the European Union will have little or no influence on the big decisions.

To rely on uncertain supplies of North Sea oil in an era of climate change is foolhardy. Moving the submarine base to England will not protect Scotland if there is ever a nuclear war. Creating yet another border in an increasingly international world is a backwards step.

In practical terms a ‘yes’ vote will make it more difficult to achieve a Labour Government at Westminster. But a Scotland which keeps the Queen, wants to use what would be a largely English pound and wants to re-join the European Union, is not truly independent.

I urge readers to contact their friends and relations in Scotland straight away and ask them to vote ‘No’ before it is too late. A United Kingdom will be wealthier, more secure and have a bigger say in world affairs. We are indeed all better off together.
