SHOPPERS at Tesco in Didcot have been helping out those who have fallen on hard times by donating more than £1500 worth of food to the town’s food bank.

Last Thursday at the store in Wallingford Road, shoppers were asked to buy an item for the food bank, alongside their shopping, and trolleys were also filled up the following two days.

The store’s community champion Elaine Griffiths said: “We did the same thing last year and on one day we filled three trolleys.

“This year, we did it the same thing over three days and the response was superb, with people’s donations filling 11 trolleys – which contained more than £1500 worth of foodstuffs.”

Miriam Loukes, who runs the food bank in Broadway, said: “We are amazed at the shoppers’ generosity.

“Tins and packets donated by shoppers at Tesco will be very useful.

“We rely on donations and get through a lot of stock in a week so this sort of support is invaluable.”
