Councillors will be asked to welcome the introduction of free school meals for all children under seven next week.

Oxfordshire County Council’s John Howson, a Liberal Democrat, has put forward a motion for Tuesday’s meeting of all councillors to welcome the Government policy, which the council has no say over.

Bosses on the Conservative-led council have said the policy could leave it with a £300,000 to £500,000 shortfall, despite a pledge of £1.47m from the Government.

The council will meet at County Hall, Oxford from 10am. The public can attend.

So, the Tory toffs are moaning that the Tory toffs in government have left them short of money even though they promised them they wouldn't. Now they know how we have felt for the past four years.

This scheme was 'thought up' by Nick Clegg as a vote catcher for the LIbDems. Basically, he's trying to buy votes at the expense of the taxpayer.

Ironically, those parents who may benefit from the scheme probably won't realise whose idea it was.

Maybe Cllr Howson would like to apologise to all the children who have had money taken from their education funding to pay for the thousands of pounds of work needed in schools to prepare for the free meals provision.

Once again politicians come up with a half funded scheme that makes THEM feel good, but which is affecting our kids' education, and with no sense of guilt or shame on their part.

Not just taxpayers - lots of schools have had to spend their own funds to bring this scheme in. Funds which can only come from cutting back on other areas of education spend in schools.
