THE REV James Kennedy pulled his weight at a village fete in the tradition annual tug of war competition.

The Five Villages Parish vicar’s team won the contest marking the end of the Salford fete on Saturday.

Rev Kennedy said: “At the end of the village fete there is a tug of war and anyone who wants to just joins in. It is everybody entering in the spirit of things.”

The parish – which lies two miles west of Chipping Norton – is made up of Salford, Little Compton, Little Rollright, Chastleton and Cornwell and boasts a strong community spirit.

He said: “They really go to town with things like village fetes. It is a wonderful community atmosphere and it is great to go along to things like that where it is a good traditional village feel with everyone mucking in.”

The fete also featured a dog agility contest, pottery demonstration, music and a race for children.
