ROYALS fans in Oxford are counting down the days until Wills and Kate visit the city.

On Monday, September 8, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will officially open the new Dickson Poon China Centre at Oxford University’s St Hugh’s College.

Children from local schools will gather at the college in St Margaret’s Road, North Oxford, to present the couple with a posy of flowers.

And other royal fans around the city will be crowding the area outside the college in the hope of glimpsing the couple.

The Duke of Cambridge pub in Little Clarendon Street commissioned a new celebratory sign when Prince William was made the Duke of Cambridge at his marriage to Kate Middleton in 2011.

General manager Roberto Losito said: “If they are in Oxford I would be very happy for William and Kate to come and have cocktails of their choice on the house.

“We would welcome them with open arms.”

Self-described royalists Liz Brandon and Valerie Charak, of Blackbird Leys, said they would be at the front of the queue to meet the couple.

Mrs Brandon, 74, of Nunnery Close, said: “It is wonderful news. I hope they are going to bring George.

“William and Kate are young, full of life and they interact with everybody which is so great.

“They are the new generation, I think we could rely on them, couldn’t we?”

Mrs Brandon said if she got a moment with the royal couple, she would tell them “well done”.

Ms Charak, 64, added: “I know a lot of ladies who would try to go and meet them.

“If you are a young person, who can you look up to as your heroes these days? Corrupt politicians? The stars on The Only Way is Essex?

“You never hear any scandal about Wills and Kate. She is a lady and he is a nice young man with decorum.”

September 8 is also the first day of this year’s St Giles’ Fair. Fair steward Joe Noyce said: “We are happy to offer them a golden pass to go on any ride they want, and we’ve also got plenty to entertain baby George.”

The full schedule of the visit for the couple’s visit to Oxford day has yet to be released.

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Oxford in February 2012 when the Duchess, a patron of The Art Room charity, visited Rose Hill Primary School and Oxford Spires Academy.
