DRIVERS are being warned they face more traffic congestion as parents return to the school run next week.
County council officials have warned that schools starting back will add “significantly” to traffic levels.
They are urging people to plan ahead or use different forms of transport.
The council is turning the Kennington roundabout at the bottom of Abingdon Road, Oxford, into a hamburger junction and a major contraflow system is already causing hold-ups.
Preparation work for the revamp of Frideswide Square, next to the railway station, also begins on Monday.
A council spokesman said: “The work is going well, despite some challenges, and is on schedule.
“We thank motorists for their patience while the improvement work is being done and ask that they continue to show consideration to other road users – experience shows that doing things like keeping exits clear at roundabouts help to improve everyone’s journey times.”
A sliproad has also been built at the Hinksey Hill interchange to ease traffic flows onto the southbound A34.
