COUNTY council leader Ian Hudspeth might be more used to freezing budgets but he was the one left shivering yesterday.

The Conservative councillor took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge outside County Hall to raise money and awareness for motor neurone disease. Mr Hudspeth is the latest in a long line of people to have taken part in the Internet craze for charity, including Matt Damon, George W Bush and Andy Murray.

So far £250,000 has been pledged in the UK, while in America £37.7million has been raised.

In the challenge, people have a bucket of icy water poured over them and then nominate others to undertake the task, asking them to donate to the cause.

Mr Hudspeth said: “It was fantastic. I would recommend it to everyone and I think it is a new regime we will introduce at County Hall.

“It is a bit of fun and it is for a good cause. The reception to this challenge has been amazing.”

Mr Hudspeth had been challenged by Oxford Mail picture editor Leah McLaren. He has nominated Oxford Mail editor Simon O’Neill, BBC Radio Oxford’s Phil Gayle and transport campaigner Hugh Jaeger.
