MARKET-GOERS had a hoot when Witney Farmers’ Market welcomed the Harlington Owl Rescue centre.

The monthly market, run by Thames Valley Farmers’ Market Co-operative, offered customers the chance to see the owls up close and hold them.

Nine-year old Lewis Gurney, from Rugby in Warwickshire, was on holiday with his family when he got to hold one of the birds on Friday.

He said: “It was really cool to hold an owl so close to my face. I like birds of prey anyway and I didn’t know there was going to be an owl there. We were on holiday and I saw the owl and really wanted to hold it.”

The market takes place on the fourth Friday of every month and stallholders last week lined up to showcase fresh produce, from cakes and eggs, to locally reared lamb and pork.
