HARRY Dudley and his wacky racer celebrated victory in both categories of the Trax Scrap Heap Challenge.

Harry, 13, from Witney, spent three days building the racer from bits of wood and MDF with teammate Sam Hepworth before taking it around the course at Red Barn Farm, off Woodstock Road, Oxford, on Thursday.

His racer made it round the track quickest and also went the furthest distance after being pushed down a ramp.

He said: “All we had was some wheels, two axles, a scaffold plank and an eight by 12 piece of MDF board. We had limited resources and we weren’t allowed to use anything else, so we had to use those materials to figure out a way to make the best racer.

“For the race we had set challenges on the way and one was to push part of the way around the track and then stop at a box, get out and swap so each person had a chance pushing. We had to pour ourselves a drink at the next box, swap again and go to the finish line.

“Then there was another challenge where we had to push ourselves down a ramp and see how far we got.

“We won that one as well.”
