POLICE have arrested a 19-year-old Oxford man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following a double stabbing in Rose Hill.

Police were called shortly after 7.30pm yesterday to reports of two men having been stabbed in The Oval, Rose Hill.

A man, aged 18, sustained a puncture wound to his chest and a man, aged 22, sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds to his chest and back.

It is believed one of the men made his way to Wynbush Road after the incident.

The injuries of both men are not believed to be life-threatening and both were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Det Insp Louise Roddy said: “I am appealing for witnesses who saw what happened or who may have seen people running away from The Oval at around the time of the incident to speak to police. It is believed the victims were known to the offender.

“Police take incidents of this nature seriously and detectives are currently working to establish the circumstances of what happened. Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach an officer.”

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Catherine Morrow said: “We were called at 7.37pm to an incident in Wynbush Road, Oxford.

“We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

“One patient was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with a chest injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.”

If you have any information about the incident or saw what happened please contact Det Insp Roddy via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.

If you don’t want to speak directly to the police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers (opens new window) anonymously on 0800 555 111 No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.

It's sad how often bad news affectimg the community of Rose Hill like this seems to follow periods when Thames Valley Police tells everyone about vast improvements in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour - though a mate of mine from Rose Hill told me ages ago that like on Blackbird Leys, the reduction in bad behaviour had probably been due to the local TVP office staffed by Police and PCSOs. Wasn't the previous knife attack incident in the same part of Rose Hill?
